Portrait Photography

Natural and character-driven portraits, with a focus on people, personality and atmosphere.

Portrait photography is, for Ramon van Loon, first and foremost about people. Not only about how someone looks, but about personality, character, mood and the small details that make someone unique. A strong portrait does not need to feel overly posed or polished; it should feel natural, personal and honest.

Ramon is especially interested in portraits that tell a story. Sometimes that means photographing someone in a familiar environment, sometimes working with strong light, colour or composition, and sometimes simply creating enough space for a genuine expression to appear. The aim is always to make images that feel connected to the person in front of the camera.

His background in design also plays an important role in the way he approaches portrait photography. Composition, visual balance, colour and atmosphere are all carefully considered, while still leaving room for spontaneity. Ramon enjoys finding the balance between a clearly composed image and the unexpected moments that often make a portrait feel alive.

Rather than chasing one fixed style, Ramon wants his portrait photography to remain flexible and curious. Every person brings a different story, energy and visual identity, and that should be reflected in the final photographs.

As his photography continues to develop, Ramon is increasingly focused on creating portraits of artists, musicians, skateboarders and other creative people. The goal is to make images that feel timeless and personal — photographs that show more than a face and offer a small glimpse into who someone is.
