Visual stories from places, landscapes and people encountered along the way.
Travel has always been an important source of inspiration for Ramon van Loon. Together with his partner, Dione Winkelmolen, he loves discovering new places, landscapes, cities and cultures — both close to home and further away. For Ramon, travelling is not only about reaching a destination, but about paying attention to the small details, unexpected moments and atmosphere found along the way.
Since starting to work more seriously with photography and using his Fujifilm camera, travelling has become even more closely connected to the way Ramon looks at the world. Carrying a camera encourages him to slow down, observe more carefully and notice scenes that might otherwise pass by unnoticed. A quiet street, changing light across a landscape, a portrait during a journey or a small moment shared between people can all become part of a larger visual story.
His travel photography is focused on documenting places in an honest and atmospheric way. Rather than creating a perfect postcard image, Ramon is interested in capturing how a place actually feels. That can mean dramatic landscapes and unfamiliar environments, but just as easily the forests, towns and everyday surroundings closer to home.
In the coming years, Ramon wants to continue developing this side of his photography by documenting both the nearby world and the places he visits with Dione further abroad. The goal is to build a collection of images that reflects not only where they have travelled, but also the memories, atmosphere and experiences connected to those places.
For Ramon, travel photography is ultimately about curiosity: exploring the world with an open mind and using photography as a way to remember, observe and tell stories.
